A National Campaign to preserve Wallace's house and gardens in Grays

On Saturday 24th October, we went to the Big Draw event at the Royal Opera House facility at Highhouse. We took with us our packs of crayons and copies of Wallace's butterfly to colour. These gave a lot of enjoyment to a large number of kids, a few parents, and at least one granddad.

We also had a small display of our Wallace interpretation boards and talked to quite a few people about Wallace and his connection to Grays and the Thurrock area. We had copies of the supporting booklet which we gave out to visitors (and other volunteers).

We would like to involve as many local people as possible in the project to make Alfred Russel Wallace better known in Thurrock. If you would like to be part of the project, please contact the Thurrock Local History Society.

You can e-mail: JohnMatthews@thurrock-history.org.uk if you would like to help with the project, or if you would like a copy of the booklet.
